Denture Repairs

There are instances when dentures may begin to feel slightly uncomfortable and that may be due to standard use, excessive wear, gumline and jaw shifting, accidents, or other reasons such as age, illness, denture habits, or lifestyle habits. If your dentures start to feel uncomfortable, please contact us to book an appointment. You should not wear improperly fitted dentures as they can irritate your gums causing mouth sore and bleeding.

It is important to note that dentures may crack, chip, or warp if they are dropped, if you eat hard foods, use a harmful solution that is not recommended by us, or if you use extensive pressure when cleaning them.

When dentures become ill-fitting, it is important to note that they do not just improve on their own and you should never try to fix them yourself. You should only have your dentures repaired by a denturist to ensure they do not become worse and cause other issues in your mouth. If a patient were to try fixing their dentures from home, there is the chance that they may crack which will result in needing to be replaced. However, if your dentures are needing a repair and you bring them to us, your dentures may be able to be fixed. Some patients may require a new set of dentures depending on the condition of their old dentures. It is important to note that in some cases, dentures cannot be repaired, but we will try our best to repair them.

What happens if my dentures break?

One of the most frequent questions we are asked is, “what do I do if my dentures break?”. Broken dentures are serious because patients need to stop doing many of the normal things that dentures are used for, such as eating or speaking. Depending on how a patient’s dentures break will determine how we repair them. Some breaks may be fixed in our office, however, there are instances when it may need to be sent to a lab to get fixed. An example of a denture repair is if one of the teeth falls out from the denture, although an inconvenience, it is not the end of the world. Teeth may fall out of the denture if they are not being taken care of properly through proper denture care and oral hygiene, if you eat something too hard, or if they fall on the ground. You should never try to fix your dentures from home as it could result in further breaks or cracks, which could be costly. The easiest thing to do is to call our denture clinic to book an appointment.
